Summary Job title: Field Service Technician Job ID: null Department: CED Services Location: null-null Description Summary: CED Services is seeking an experienced Electrical Field Service Technician to join our growing field services team. This position will support industrial and commercial customers with electrical testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and startup of low- and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems. This is a hands-on field position for someone who understands electrical power systems, takes pride in quality work, works safely, and can represent CED Services professionally in front of our customers. Team members who demonstrate technical ability, leadership, customer service, and initiative will have opportunities to take on greater responsibility as the organization continues to expand Reports to: Field Service Manager Minimum Qualifications: Primary Responsibilities The technician will perform and assist with electrical testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and startup activities on industrial power distribution equipment. Typical responsibilities include: Perform electrical acceptance and maintenance testing Complete PowerDB test forms and field documentation Read and interpret one-lines, three-lines, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and connection drawings Perform point-to-point and functional checks Assist with commissioning and startup of electrical distribution systems Perform insulation resistance and contact resistance testing Perform secondary and primary injection testing Perform CT and PT/VT ratio, polarity, and insulation testing Test low- and medium-voltage circuit breakers Perform cable testing including Hi-Pot, VLF, Tan Delta, and related diagnostic testing Perform grounding system testing including fall-of-potential, soil resistivity, and point-to-point testing Inspect and test substation battery and battery charger systems Perform testing on 480V switchboards and switchgear Perform testing on medium-voltage metal-clad switchgear Assist with protective relay, metering, and control circuit testing Perform and assist with power transformer testing Collect transformer oil samples for screen testing and DGA Properly document test results, deficiencies, corrective actions, time, and expenses Technical Knowledge Candidates should have a working understanding of electrical fundamentals including: Basic mathematics, algebra, and the power triangle AC and DC electrical theory Single-phase and three-phase circuits Ohm's Law Voltage, current, resistance, reactance, and power Electrical components and symbols IEEE/ANSI device numbers and functions Electrical safety and grounding practices Current and potential circuits CT and PT/VT applications Substation DC systems Metering circuits and configurations Protective relaying and control circuits Electrical equipment ratings including voltage, amperage, interrupting rating, and arc-flash considerations Equipment Experience Candidates should have experience with or a working understanding of the following equipment and testing practices: 480V Switchboards & Switchgear Main, feeder, and tie breakers M-T-M and M-G configurations CTs, neutral CTs, PTs, CPTs, and metering ERMS systems Insulation resistance testing Contact resistance testing Ground-fault testing Secondary and primary injection Low- & Medium-Voltage Circuit Breakers Air and vacuum circuit breakers Breaker timing Contact resistance Insulation resistance Minimum pickup/trip testing Dielectric withstand testing Vacuum integrity testing Primary and secondary injection testing Medium-Voltage Metal-Clad Switchgear Equipment inspection Bus and insulation testing Breaker and protective device testing CT/PT circuits Control power Functional testing and commissioning Power Transformers Transformer inspection DETC and LTC systems Turns ratio (TTR) Winding resistance Insulation testing Power factor testing Excitation testing Core ground testing Sudden pressure and Buchholz devices Oil sampling and DGA Functional testing of transformer accessories and controls Technicians should be capable of making test connections and performing transformer testing under the supervision of a Senior Technician when required. Power Cable Cable construction and identification AC/DC Hi-Pot VLF withstand testing VLF Tan Delta Partial discharge concepts Applicable IEEE, ANSI, ICEA, and NETA requirements Grounding Systems Ground-grid fundamentals Soil resistivity testing Fall-of-potential testing Point-to-point resistance testing Safety Expectations Safety is a core requirement of this position. Candidates must understand and consistently follow: Job Safety Analysis (JSA) Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Electrically safe work conditions Approach boundaries and safe working distances Temporary protective grounding Fall protection PPE requirements Site permitting requirements Emergency response procedures Drug, alcohol, and prohibited-item policies Customer-specific safety requirements Documentation & Customer Service CED Services technicians are expected to represent the company professionally in the field. Candidates must be able to: Communicate effectively with customers, contractors, engineers, and other technicians Understand and execute the assigned scope of work Complete accurate field test documentation Enter and maintain test data in PowerDB Complete JSAs, job sheets, time sheets, and expense reports Document deficiencies and communicate issues to project leadership Follow CED Services QA/QC procedures Maintain accountability for company tools and test equipment Identify additional customer needs and communicate potential sales opportunities to the CED Services team Preferred Qualifications: Previous electrical testing, commissioning, industrial electrical, or power distribution experience Experience with low- and medium-voltage electrical equipment Familiarity with NETA, IEEE, ANSI, NFPA 70E, and applicable industry standards Experience using electrical test equipment PowerDB experience preferred Ability to troubleshoot electrical control and power circuits Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics Valid driver's license Ability to travel approximately 30-40% Ability to work overtime, weekends, outages, and shutdowns when project schedules require it Working Conditions: Travel This position requires approximately 30-40% travel depending on project workload. Travel may include overnight and multi-day projects supporting customers throughout Texas and other regions. Provide detailed recommendations and corrective actions documenting machine component issues to maintenance and operations personnel. Effectively and efficiently identify the multiple "problems" that can occur in rotating equipment (pumps, motors, turbines, fans, gear-boxes, etc.) and determining the source of the predominate vibrations.
